Russia

At the exhibition in the State Russian Museum the Cherkashins have presented artworks dedicated to Russia, the USA and Germany. The installation dedicated to Russia includes a series of works, "Mirages of the USSR". The exhibition consists primarily of photographic images which are especially processed and transformed. The past and present are combined. The artwork forms part of installations supplemented by sound and video.
The installation dedicated to Russia consisted of art works dedicated to the end of Soviet epoch in Russia and the remains of the culture of the USSR.
The American installation was dedicated to the events of September 11, 2001. The size of this installation is about 40 sq. m. In the center there are images of New York against a background of American flags made from US newspapers. It consists of photographic images which we took in New York during their trips from 1994 through October 2001. All this installation was suspended and scarcely moved in a specific way, to reflect both the strength and power of civilization and at the same time the fragility of life on Earth. It was accompanied by special sounds, and light.
The German part of the installation was dedicated to the unification of Germany. It consisted of photographic images of classical German architecture combined with photographs of contemporary people in the streets of Berlin
.
